Christmas 2013

Well, I think we’re finally recovered from our Christmas season – our wonderful, crazy, Christmas season 🙂 It was full of family and laughter and lots and lots of love. Not to mention it was Ellie’s first Christmas too! (I love these photos we managed to get of her and her friend just before we left for NY)

We started in Western NY visiting my family – we had many parties to attend and lots of family to see. (And another photo session) We celebrated our own Christmas on Sunday, December 15 with my brothers, nephews, their mom, and my parents. And we managed to wrangle everyone together for a family photo 🙂 And got some of Ellie with her oldest uncle – I love these!

There was also a larger family party while we were there – and Santa even visited (as he does every year!).

We thankfully had about a week to recover when we got home – especially since David and I both got the stomach flu . . . yuck! All of David’s siblings and their families arrived on December 24 – and we had conspired with them to do some family sessions as a present for his mom for Christmas. So, we met each family individually on Christmas Eve (one couple Christmas morning!) and were able to show a slideshow for his mom as we opened presents. Here’s the images she chose to put on her wall

We had Ellie dedicated while everyone was in town and that’s when we were able to get a shot of the whole family – including grandma and grandpa.

What a fantastic few weeks – we love our families and wish everyone lived close to us so we could see them all way more often! How was your Christmas this year?

Hoffman Family Farm

If you remember, we donated a family mini photo session for a benefit in honor of my cousin back in November. The lucky winner really wanted photos of her son and grandson. So, just before Christmas while we were in Canaseraga visiting my side of the family, we were able to meet them at the family farm. What a beautiful place! I asked to move it – and I wasn’t kidding 🙂

It was a wonderful snowy day – almost too snowy as they live on a hill and we don’t have 4 wheel drive in our Yaris 😉 We managed to make it up the hill and started in the house. Mom (grandma) is an artist (or at least was in high school when she painted the trees on the wall in the this photo) – I also volunteered to take that off their hands if they ever need to get rid of it (I found all sort of things I fell in love with there!) Isn’t it amazing?!

Hoffman-1.jpgHoffman-3.jpg

After our beginning inside, we managed to talk them into venturing out into the snow and I’m glad we did. We had a blast (I hope they did too)!

A Very Barry Christmas

We met Lauren through some friends (Lars and Beth – you’ve seen them before) a year or two ago. She’s such a fun girl – always happy – and a beauty to boot! She contacted us in November to take some photos of her, her brother Matt, and their dogs (Cody and Dexter) for their mom’s Christmas present this year. They have both graduated from High School and college, so they thought it was high-time for some new, updated photos of all the kiddos (plus, Dexter is just 5 1/2 months old!).

Returning to Bower Springs again, we wandered with them for a bit, stopping at the many picturesque places along the way. The puppies (is it wrong to want to steal a client’s dogs?! SO CUTE!) and I had lots of fun – even playing with the little bit of snow there was. Cody especially loves the snow – here he is mid-jump!

It was so fun to spend some time with Lauren and to meet her brother and the dogs – hope we can do it again (even without a camera)! And, we hope mom loves the photos!

Byler Family Mini Session – West Boylston, MA

We love spending time with the Byler family. And that’s just what we got to do once again on a lovely Saturday recently at the Old Stone Church in West Boylston, Massachusetts. We’ve been here before, and we’ll probably be back — this is a favorite location of ours.  The church is beautiful and so are the rest of the grounds.  We love watching their boys grow and change each year – they are so darn cute! Last year we went to them; this year they decided to come to us.

We caught the peak of fall foliage . . . as did many other photographers. We were just one of at least four photo sessions happening that morning at this location. We’re so glad we have such fun, cute, and flexible clients 🙂
If you’ve never been a part of one of our sessions, we love to vary the speed. We will often start by walking around a bit to help the kids (and parents) get used to us and the camera and loosen up a little bit. Throughout the session we also stop at various locations for some posed shots, but we love to capture the in-between. Kids love to run and play, obviously, so we try to get some of those shots as well. Mom and dad came prepared this year with gummy bears as incentive for the boys to cooperate and smile for the camera. It worked great. And don’t forget monkey, you’ll see him in several of the pictures if you look for him.

Thank you Bylers!  We’re so thankful for you and for spreading the word about us!

Jim + Lindsey | Worcester Library | Worcester MA | Doulos Photography | Central MA Wedding Photographer

From the very first contact we had with Jim and Lindsey about photography for their outdoor wedding, they were a blast to work with! David shot this wedding alone since Rhiannon is still recovering from her c-section, though she almost tried to come along anyway… We do love to work together 🙂

Jim and Lindsey planned a really special day and we are so grateful they allowed us to be a part of it. From getting ready at the Beechwood hotel, followed by a beautiful and meaningful ceremony on Worcester’s City Hall Common, their fun photos with the “turtle boy”, and a historic first-ever wedding reception at the Worcester Public library, the day was full of their personality.

Getting ready always takes a bit of doing, and in this case a bellhop cart came in quite handy for getting up and into the dress!

Jim and Lindsey picked out favorite books for the bridesmaids to carry down the aisle.  Keep your eyes open for peacock feathers, too, which hold special significance to the two of them.

Jim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-3.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-40.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-45.jpg

It was really hot in the hotel room, so it didn’t take long before the door was propped open with a nearby rain boot.

Jim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-10.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-4.jpg

We grabbed a couple of quick bridal portraits, and then I was off to the ceremony site.

Jim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-11.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-12.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-8.jpg

The ceremony itself was beautiful. The rain even stopped just in time for guests to gather and held off just long enough for the last of the wedding party to make it inside for the reception!

Despite many last-minute challenges like having to find a new wedding cake the morning of, learning that the antique car they had booked to bring them to the ceremony wouldn’t come due to weather, and of course, the weather itself, Jim and Lindsey managed to keep level heads and have a great time!

Jim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-27.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-28.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-29.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-30.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-31.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-32.jpg

This was not only a fun day for all, but an historic one as well – this was the first reception held at the Worcester Public Library, and it was featured in the T&G and on WorcesterMag.  Jim and Lindsey thought through everything, from a dictionary guest book, to book pages as place settings, lanterns and tea lights for ambiance, and more.  And man, do those two know how to have a party!

Jim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-33.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-34.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-35.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-36.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-37.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-38.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-39.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-41.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-42.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-43.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-44.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-46.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-47.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-48.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-49.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-50.jpgJim_and_Lindsey_Wedding-51.jpg

Well done, Jim and Lindsey, on a beautiful event and best wishes for the years to come!

David + Rhiannon – Maternity Session – Clinton, MA

We did manage to sneak in some time to get more maternity photos taken before this little one’s arrival – and this time we included David 🙂

This time we went to the Wachusett Reservoir Dam in Clinton, MA. It’s a beautiful location with a large dam on the Wachusett Reservoir. We don’t live too far from here and often will stop to watch the sunset over the water in the evenings – it’s always so gorgeous! It always makes me a little sad that we’re not allowed to boat on the water since it’s the drinking water for Boston. Nonetheless, if you’ve never been to the Wachusett Reservoir or the Dam, you should stop by sometime – it’s beautiful!

This day we didn’t spend too long there – it was HOT and I am VERY pregnant! But, we did manage to get some great shots in a short amount of time – see for yourself.

Rhiannon Maternity Session – Boylston, MA

We’re expecting our first baby – a girl – this August and we’re super-excited!!! We had hoped to do a maternity session back in June, but life got away from us – as happens frequently, and we just now got some taken – at 36 weeks! I guess we like to cut it close 🙂 We did travel to OH and back at 35 weeks, so what’s the rush with the photos? 🙂

We got a late start the day we chose to do the shoot. We stayed close to home since we were trying to beat the sunset and we even visited some places we’ve been to before (I told you we’d be back here!) and others that we’ll likely visit again!

Hopefully we’ll get some with David in them too before we deliver this wee one 🙂 For now, here’s some of our favorites of the ones we got of just me.

Peter+Kensie | Chapel Of The Cross | Westborough, MA | Doulos Photography | Central MA Wedding Photographer

You may recall that we recently took engagement photos for Peter and Kensie (see those here) in the snow and had a great time. Their wedding day was much different weather, thankfully 🙂

Both the ceremony and the reception were held at Chapel of the Cross in Westborough, MA where Kensie’s father is the pastor.  Peter’s brother (Andy Needham of the Andy Needham Band, check them out!) used to work at the church as well and he was the one to perform the ceremony.

The guys and girls stayed on opposite sides of the church to get ready – but both had lots of fun. They guys got to hang in the youth room, and the girls had the conference room. The conference room is a great place for brides to get ready and have portraits – there is so much natural light with the large windows overlooking the wooded area behind the church.

One of our favorite moments of the day was when dad saw Kensie for the first time – so sweet and special! Mom was able to be a part of this special time as well – though all others were kicked out for the special time.

Peter_Kensie-29.jpgPeter_Kensie-30.jpgPeter_Kensie-31.jpgPeter_Kensie-32.jpgPeter_Kensie-33.jpgPeter_Kensie-34.jpgPeter_Kensie-35.jpgPeter_Kensie-36.jpgPeter_Kensie-37.jpgPeter_Kensie-38.jpgPeter_Kensie-39.jpgPeter_Kensie-40.jpgPeter_Kensie-41.jpg

The ceremony was beautiful – just like the bride!  All of the thought that went into every detail was astounding. We loved that the ceremony and the reception were both held inside the church. After the ceremony they had a cocktail hour in the foyer while helpers cleared the chairs out of the sanctuary from the ceremony. Then, the party moved back into the sanctuary where there was food and dancing, not to mention a live band.

Peter_Kensie-50.jpgPeter_Kensie-51.jpgPeter_Kensie-52.jpgPeter_Kensie-53.jpgPeter_Kensie-54.jpgPeter_Kensie-55.jpgPeter_Kensie-42.jpgPeter_Kensie-43.jpgPeter_Kensie-44.jpgPeter_Kensie-45.jpgPeter_Kensie-46.jpgPeter_Kensie-47.jpgPeter_Kensie-48.jpgPeter_Kensie-49.jpg

While all of that was happing inside, we were outside with the wedding paryt. We had a blast with them – they were so fun and easy going.

All in all a fantastic wedding for a fantastic couple – many years of happiness you guys!

Peter + Kensie – Engagement Session – Sudbury, MA

We knew Peter and Kensie a little bit already when they approached us to shoot their wedding in May 2013. Right from the start we liked these two as individuals, and loved hearing how they fell in love as we shot engagement photos in the snow.

We met at the beautiful Wayside Inn in Sudbury, MA – not too far from home for these two. This also happens to be where we met each other back in 2008 at a wedding and hadn’t been back since then. Rhiannon was a bridesmaid and David a friend of the groom (his brother Dan was the best man at the wedding). Neither of them expected to meet anyone that day – and in fact, when they found out their differences, they wrote each other off as potentials. Rhiannon had just turned 30 and lived and worked in southern PA, while David was 23 and entering his senior year of college in Worcester, MA in the fall. As fate would have it, Rhiannon moved to MA a year later, living with the groom’s family, where David and his family had lived years before! We soon reconnected at a party in Dorchester thrown by the groom’s sister . . . and well, the rest is history 😉 Back to the two we’re here to talk about 🙂

We met Peter and Kensie early on this snowy Saturday and wandered the grounds together. They came prepared with coffee in hand – and blankets to wrap up in. We heard stories of their relationship, how Peter “knew” she was the one, and the story of their engagement (which included her whole family – how sweet is that?!).

It was great to get to know these two better and we look forward to having more fun on their wedding day!

Nate + Eileen Love Birds – Winter Wedding in Houghton, NY

Eileen and Rhiannon have been friends since college. Technically they met freshman year where they attended college in western NY state, and technically they were the same major and had lots of classes together, and technically they worked together in the summers in a wilderness program; but they didn’t technically become friends (if you ask them) until after graduation when they took a 3 week road trip across the states together. Nothing bonds people like cramped spaces for an extended period of time! Because of these strong ties, Rhiannon was one of the bridesmaids in Eileen’s wedding (as Eileen had been for Rhiannon) this December.

We’ve been hearing about Nate from Eileen for years – and by the time we met him we already knew he was a great match for our friend. The longer we’ve known him, the more sure we are in that opinion! Weso excited about this new life they’ve started together and are thrilled to see where God is taking them next – and so glad we get to witness it all!

We started our day together at Eileen’s house where the girls were together getting ready for the day – all of them knowing each other from their college days. David got to split his time in the morning as he eventually made his way to Houghton Wesleyan Church in Houghton, NY where the ceremony was being held – and also where the guys had gathered to get ready. Rhiannon stayed with the ladies and in between getting ready and helping the other girls, was also able to capture some more photos.

The ceremony was wonderful – being performed by a great and longtime friend and mentor to Eileen. Houghton Wesleyan is also a beautiful church – and being so close to Christmas, was decorated just beautifully for their ceremony!

After the ceremony, we went to Letchworth State Park in Perry, NY for some photos in the cold, wind, and snow – then onto the reception at Anastassia Events in Portageville, NY. It’s a beautiful old catholic church converted to an event hall.
