Matt + Jocelyn | The Codman Estate Wedding | Lincoln, MA | Doulos Photography | Central MA Wedding Photographer

I met Matt 10 years ago (!) in West Virginia working at Camp Sandy Cove. That summer, I also met Matt’s sister and we became quick friends (and roommates) – a friendship that still continues to this day! (You’ve seen her here before, as well as Matt and their sister Liz too)

I also met Jocelyn 5 years ago (how has it been that long already?!) when we both worked as leaders to middle school girls groups at Grace Chapel in Lexington, MA. Now Jocelyn is the one in charge of the middle school program!

So, when I heard that Matt and Jocelyn were dating, I knew that Matt would be wise to hang on to her – and I’m so glad he realized it too! David and I were super-excited when they asked us to be a part of their big day; we knew it would be a blast with these two!

We started the day at Jocelyn’s parents house where she got ready. We arrived a bit early (and beat the bride, sisters and mom there!) and dad was able to get the dress and shoes for us to photograph while we waited. It was so nice to have some leisurely time to be creative and try new things. What a beautiful place to capture these images! I fell in love with this chair too (really, if it disappears, I know nothing about it!), you’ll see it in several of the photographs here.

When Jocelyn and the rest of the girls arrived from getting their hair and makeup done, she quickly got in her dress and we were able to capture some images of this beauty!

Then, we rushed over to Matt’s parents’ house in Lincoln where we were able to get some images of the guys in their new(ish) library on the upper floor. This is absolutely my favorite room in any house that I know – it is beautiful and full of glorious light.

On to The Codman Estate in Lincoln, MA for the ceremony and reception. It was a brisk, windy spring day, so both of these were at the carriage house instead of in the garden on the property, which given the temperature, I’m certain all the guests were happy about. Everything about this location is lovely and I’m so glad we were able to capture just a glimpse of the beauty! The ceremony was such an intimate experience and seemed so ethereal in this quaint space.

After the beautiful ceremony (performed by Jocelyn’s mother and father), we snuck away into the cold, windy yard for a few group shots while they cleared out the carriage house for the reception. The reception was right up our alley with a burger bar (catered by Boston Cafe and Catering) and delicious chocolate cake and an ice cream bar to boot.

And, since the wedding day was so cold and windy, we didn’t get any alone time with the new couple outside – so we all met again at the Estate a few weeks later to capture some more shots.

Hippity Hoppity Spring Is Here!

Easter is on the way – at least it must be since today is the first day of Spring. Despite the thin layer of fresh ice on the trees this morning, the cool temps, and the snow still on the ground, new life and warmth are on the way! And, to help us all remember the promise of things to come, I’m here to share some adorable photos taken just yesterday of some of the cutest girls around (I’m not biased at all . . .)

You’ll remember the cutie Annabeth from her previous sessions – I swear she just gets cuter by the minute! We actually took her photos second, while Ellie napped. I’m so glad we thought to add a carrot – it was the perfect prop – something for her to chew on and hold and it fit the theme. I also love that her cheeks are so big that they cast their own shadow!

Ellie has also had some previous photos taken – and I’m sure they’re not the last! The life of being a photographer’s kid I guess 🙂

And, how do you top the cuteness you’ve already seen?! Put them together of course!!! We had way too much fun with these two 🙂

Christmas 2013

Well, I think we’re finally recovered from our Christmas season – our wonderful, crazy, Christmas season 🙂 It was full of family and laughter and lots and lots of love. Not to mention it was Ellie’s first Christmas too! (I love these photos we managed to get of her and her friend just before we left for NY)

We started in Western NY visiting my family – we had many parties to attend and lots of family to see. (And another photo session) We celebrated our own Christmas on Sunday, December 15 with my brothers, nephews, their mom, and my parents. And we managed to wrangle everyone together for a family photo 🙂 And got some of Ellie with her oldest uncle – I love these!

There was also a larger family party while we were there – and Santa even visited (as he does every year!).

We thankfully had about a week to recover when we got home – especially since David and I both got the stomach flu . . . yuck! All of David’s siblings and their families arrived on December 24 – and we had conspired with them to do some family sessions as a present for his mom for Christmas. So, we met each family individually on Christmas Eve (one couple Christmas morning!) and were able to show a slideshow for his mom as we opened presents. Here’s the images she chose to put on her wall

We had Ellie dedicated while everyone was in town and that’s when we were able to get a shot of the whole family – including grandma and grandpa.

What a fantastic few weeks – we love our families and wish everyone lived close to us so we could see them all way more often! How was your Christmas this year?

Hoffman Family Farm

If you remember, we donated a family mini photo session for a benefit in honor of my cousin back in November. The lucky winner really wanted photos of her son and grandson. So, just before Christmas while we were in Canaseraga visiting my side of the family, we were able to meet them at the family farm. What a beautiful place! I asked to move it – and I wasn’t kidding 🙂

It was a wonderful snowy day – almost too snowy as they live on a hill and we don’t have 4 wheel drive in our Yaris 😉 We managed to make it up the hill and started in the house. Mom (grandma) is an artist (or at least was in high school when she painted the trees on the wall in the this photo) – I also volunteered to take that off their hands if they ever need to get rid of it (I found all sort of things I fell in love with there!) Isn’t it amazing?!

Hoffman-1.jpgHoffman-3.jpg

After our beginning inside, we managed to talk them into venturing out into the snow and I’m glad we did. We had a blast (I hope they did too)!

Byler Family Mini Session – West Boylston, MA

We love spending time with the Byler family. And that’s just what we got to do once again on a lovely Saturday recently at the Old Stone Church in West Boylston, Massachusetts. We’ve been here before, and we’ll probably be back — this is a favorite location of ours.  The church is beautiful and so are the rest of the grounds.  We love watching their boys grow and change each year – they are so darn cute! Last year we went to them; this year they decided to come to us.

We caught the peak of fall foliage . . . as did many other photographers. We were just one of at least four photo sessions happening that morning at this location. We’re so glad we have such fun, cute, and flexible clients 🙂
If you’ve never been a part of one of our sessions, we love to vary the speed. We will often start by walking around a bit to help the kids (and parents) get used to us and the camera and loosen up a little bit. Throughout the session we also stop at various locations for some posed shots, but we love to capture the in-between. Kids love to run and play, obviously, so we try to get some of those shots as well. Mom and dad came prepared this year with gummy bears as incentive for the boys to cooperate and smile for the camera. It worked great. And don’t forget monkey, you’ll see him in several of the pictures if you look for him.

Thank you Bylers!  We’re so thankful for you and for spreading the word about us!

Baby Annabeth – Newborn Session – Marlborough MA

Annabeth holds an extra special place in our hearts: our good friends Lars and Beth told us they were expecting their first baby the same day we shared our exciting news with them! Beth was due 3 weeks after me – in late August.  We even joked that I could potentially have a July baby since I was due August 5, and Beth could potentially have a September baby.  Well, Annabeth decided to make her appearance early and prove us wrong – she came an astounding 5 weeks early!  Thankfully all was well with her, although she did score herself a 10-day stay in the NICU to make sure her bilirubin levels were normal.

Beth is a bit different from me: she’s a planner and pays close attention to details.  She is so on top of things, that she had a birth plan ready and was even already packed for the hospital long before Annabeth’s arrival. She was not, however, planning on a super-quick delivery (we’re talking just hours after their arrival at the hospital) or such an early one! She handled all those wrenches thrown in her plans with such grace! What a woman (and don’t forget it Lars!)

We loved spending the afternoon with Annabeth, Lars and Beth in their home. I’m sure there will be many more in years to come and David and I look forward to watching our girls grow together. Thanks for letting me help tell part of your story!

Baby Ellie – Newborn Session – Boylston, MA

David and I had our first baby! Our sweet little Ellie came into the world right on her due date – of course, it was a scheduled C-section since she refused to turn head-down. There were many attempts by the Doctor and Chiropractor, as well as other interesting methods tried at home (moxibustion, baths, swimming, standing on my hands in the pool, and David using pressure points on my toes, to name a few). But, to no avail – she remained breech.

A C-section is certainly not what we were hoping for, but thankfully we had the option with modern medicine and it worked out fine. The practice and hospital we delivered with were awesome and allowed many things that made this experience more like a natural birth than many c-sections are. (for more information about how a c-section CAN be, watch this video) For instance, I was able to have skin to skin time right away with her! And, thanks to being born in this way, her head is amazingly round! We obviously think she’s beautiful – you can judge for yourselves (but don’t tell us if you disagree). She was just 11 days old when we took newborn photos of her.

David + Rhiannon – Maternity Session – Clinton, MA

We did manage to sneak in some time to get more maternity photos taken before this little one’s arrival – and this time we included David 🙂

This time we went to the Wachusett Reservoir Dam in Clinton, MA. It’s a beautiful location with a large dam on the Wachusett Reservoir. We don’t live too far from here and often will stop to watch the sunset over the water in the evenings – it’s always so gorgeous! It always makes me a little sad that we’re not allowed to boat on the water since it’s the drinking water for Boston. Nonetheless, if you’ve never been to the Wachusett Reservoir or the Dam, you should stop by sometime – it’s beautiful!

This day we didn’t spend too long there – it was HOT and I am VERY pregnant! But, we did manage to get some great shots in a short amount of time – see for yourself.

Rhiannon Maternity Session – Boylston, MA

We’re expecting our first baby – a girl – this August and we’re super-excited!!! We had hoped to do a maternity session back in June, but life got away from us – as happens frequently, and we just now got some taken – at 36 weeks! I guess we like to cut it close 🙂 We did travel to OH and back at 35 weeks, so what’s the rush with the photos? 🙂

We got a late start the day we chose to do the shoot. We stayed close to home since we were trying to beat the sunset and we even visited some places we’ve been to before (I told you we’d be back here!) and others that we’ll likely visit again!

Hopefully we’ll get some with David in them too before we deliver this wee one 🙂 For now, here’s some of our favorites of the ones we got of just me.

Peter+Kensie | Chapel Of The Cross | Westborough, MA | Doulos Photography | Central MA Wedding Photographer

You may recall that we recently took engagement photos for Peter and Kensie (see those here) in the snow and had a great time. Their wedding day was much different weather, thankfully 🙂

Both the ceremony and the reception were held at Chapel of the Cross in Westborough, MA where Kensie’s father is the pastor.  Peter’s brother (Andy Needham of the Andy Needham Band, check them out!) used to work at the church as well and he was the one to perform the ceremony.

The guys and girls stayed on opposite sides of the church to get ready – but both had lots of fun. They guys got to hang in the youth room, and the girls had the conference room. The conference room is a great place for brides to get ready and have portraits – there is so much natural light with the large windows overlooking the wooded area behind the church.

Peter_Kensie-1.jpgPeter_Kensie-10.jpgPeter_Kensie-11.jpgPeter_Kensie-12.jpgPeter_Kensie-13.jpgPeter_Kensie-14.jpgPeter_Kensie-15.jpgPeter_Kensie-16.jpgPeter_Kensie-17.jpgPeter_Kensie-18.jpgPeter_Kensie-19.jpgPeter_Kensie-2.jpgPeter_Kensie-20.jpgPeter_Kensie-21.jpgPeter_Kensie-22.jpgPeter_Kensie-23.jpgPeter_Kensie-24.jpgPeter_Kensie-25.jpgPeter_Kensie-26.jpgPeter_Kensie-27.jpgPeter_Kensie-28.jpgPeter_Kensie-3.jpgPeter_Kensie-4.jpgPeter_Kensie-5.jpgPeter_Kensie-6.jpgPeter_Kensie-7.jpgPeter_Kensie-8.jpgPeter_Kensie-9.jpg

One of our favorite moments of the day was when dad saw Kensie for the first time – so sweet and special! Mom was able to be a part of this special time as well – though all others were kicked out for the special time.

Peter_Kensie-29.jpgPeter_Kensie-30.jpgPeter_Kensie-31.jpgPeter_Kensie-32.jpgPeter_Kensie-33.jpgPeter_Kensie-34.jpgPeter_Kensie-35.jpgPeter_Kensie-36.jpgPeter_Kensie-37.jpgPeter_Kensie-38.jpgPeter_Kensie-39.jpgPeter_Kensie-40.jpgPeter_Kensie-41.jpg

The ceremony was beautiful – just like the bride!  All of the thought that went into every detail was astounding. We loved that the ceremony and the reception were both held inside the church. After the ceremony they had a cocktail hour in the foyer while helpers cleared the chairs out of the sanctuary from the ceremony. Then, the party moved back into the sanctuary where there was food and dancing, not to mention a live band.

While all of that was happing inside, we were outside with the wedding paryt. We had a blast with them – they were so fun and easy going.

All in all a fantastic wedding for a fantastic couple – many years of happiness you guys!
